One common denominator of all great wedding photography is the ability to show movement in your images. Static images are great, but it's nice to have some other types of images in your wedding album. One of the main ways we do this is to have the newlyweds walking and holding hands. In the photo above we asked the bride and groom to walk up the grand staircase at San Francisco City Hall. In addition, we also asked them to ignore us and pretend like we were not even there. This causes the photo to look more natural and more candid. In reality we really did need our couple to walk up the stairs to get us ready for the next series of City Hall photos.
I see many other City Hall wedding photographers taking photos like this with the bride and groom coming down the stairs. We also do this, but really like the angle shooting down at the couple. The reason for this is the very unique patterned floor below the grand staircase at City Hall. This floor is one of the things that really sets off the architecture and makes it unique. It would be a shame not to highlight it in some way. We feel like shooting at a down angle really accomplishes this!
